A coffee date is always the safe and comfortable recommended first date meeting when you are meeting someone for the first time. Your coffee date is an opportunity for you to get to know your date and a chance for you to make a great impression and move on to the second date.

Be conscious that conversation is a two-way street. If you catch yourself doing all the talking, be sure to ask a question. If your date seems a bit shy, then try to break the ice by sharing something interesting about yourself that he/she will find amusing or ask them something that you’re curious about such as the things they like to do for fun.

Compliment your date. It could be their shoes or a simple, "you look lovely".

If it goes well and you want to continue, then choose a comfortable, relaxed activity that doesn’t have to take more than half an hour. Ice cream and a walk in the park, whatever.

However, just because a first date should be simple doesn’t mean it can’t be interesting. Use the date as an opportunity to go somewhere new that you’ve wanted to try.
